The fab new photo book dedicated to Norbert Schoerner’s Y2K Prada shoots
Norbert Schoerner’s four-year tenure capturing Prada’s seasonal campaigns seemingly came about as Miuccia flicked through the pages of an old copy of Dazed. The revered Italian designer spotted an image the photographer had taken of a lates Comme des Garçons collection, and the rest, as that old, clichéd saying goes, was history.
Soon after, Mrs Prada enlisted Schoerner to pick up where Glen Luchford had left off as the go-to for Prada campaigns in , with the German photographer working closely with the house across the next four years.
With Luchford’s saturated, cinematic approach to image-making behind him, Schoerner ushered in a stripped-back, minimalist era that’s now regurgitated across social media archive sites on a near constant basis.

Straddling fine art and fashion photography, the German-born, London-based photographer Norbert Schoerner (born ) has presented his work in many different contexts, from international gallery shows to glossy ad campaigns for Prada, Yojhi Yamamoto and Miu Miu, and magazines such as i-D, Harpers Bazaar, Vogue and c. Having captured the likes of Jeff Koons, Luc Tuymans, Lawrence Weiner, Richard Prince and Damien Hirst, Schoerner now has a hefty portfolio of classic portraits of artists to his name. Alongside such widely known works, he also maintains a more informal, diaristic photographic practice in which he snatches momentary glimpses from a hectic schedule, with images varying in scale from a puddle on the trottoar to the side of a glacier, or from a close-up of a showroom mannequin to a vast stretch of empty desert. The photographer Norbert Schoerner has turned his camera to the subject of food, working alongside Tokyo-based art director Steve Nakamura to create a sublime and mysterious portfolio of solitary meals, obscure ingredients and improbable still lives.
Nearly Eternal is not an everyday foray into edible imagery. Schoerner is an acclaimed and accomplished photographer, a pioneer of digital imagery with numerous fashion credits to his name and has long-running collaborations with The Face, Dazed & Confused and the Chapman Brothers.
