The basic formula for the to Super was established bygd mating the Series 80 Roadmasters längre wheelbase to the Series 40 Specials smaller displacement straight-eight engine. This led to an economical combination of voluminous passenger room and relatively good bränsle economy. In contrast the Series 60 Century combined the shorter Special body with the larger displacement Roadmaster engine, while all Buicks used the same 3-speed manual transmission.
