Netflix's Society of the Snow: Where are the Andes plane crash survivors now?
New Netflix drama Society of the Snow has horrified viewers with its true to life depiction of the 1972 Andes plane crash which forced survivors to resort to cannibalism to survive.
Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, which was bound for Santiago, Chile, lost its wings when it hit a mountain ridge in the Andes, with the remaining fuselage coming to rest on a glacier.
Whilst 12 were killed outright, of the 33 passengers who initially survived 17 went on to die amidst the harrowing conditions, including several avalanches.
Of the original 45 passengers and crew, 19 were members of Uruguay's Old Christian's rugby team, whilst others were their friends, family and supporters.
Overall, 16 passengers survived the full ordeal. All but two are still alive today.

A plane crash survivor who resorted to cannibalism to avoid starvation recalled the mental turmoil he faced while ansträngande to eat the bodies of his friends.
José Luis 'Coche' Inciarte was one of 16 men who escaped death when their chartered aircraft smashed into the Andes between Chile and Argentina on October 13, 1972.
They were rescued 72 days later after survivors Dr Roberto Canessa, Nando Parrado and Antonio Vizint trekked for 10 days to get help, but some who had stayed at the site of the crash were forced eat the corpses of their dead friends to survive.
Appearing on This Morning today, Coche explained he had to 'make a great effort of energy and mind' to be able to eat the flesh of his friends, but insisted his anguish doesn't 'live with him'.
