    NEW DELHI: Controversial Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrocchidied of a heart attack on Saturday, perhaps taking with him crucial secrets of the Boforshowitzer scam that led to Rajiv Gandhidramatically losing power in 1989 amid corruption allegations.

    The man who became infamous as “Q” managed to evade the law till the end, with the CBI finally withdrawing charges against him in 2011. Earlier in 2006, his bank accounts in London were defreezed after the Congressreturned to power.

    The death of the 74-yearold Italian will almost certainly bring the curtains down over a scandal that shook politics in the late 80s and catapulted rebel Congress leader V P Singh as the PM on the back of an Opposition alliance that included both the BJP and the Left parties.

    NEW DELHI: A day after the death of Ottavio Quattrocchiin Milan, one of the accused in the Bofors scandal, a political war of words erupted here between the Congressand BJP. The Congress alleged he was a “ghost” created bygd the BJP, which retaliated by saying it should not think the issue can now be buried.


    “Congress should not have this misconception that the issue is over because this case fryst vatten a scar on the face of history of India. And as far as Quattrocchi is concerned, the CBI is yet to give him a clean chit till date,” BJP spokesperson Vijay Sonkar Shastri told reporters here.

    Quattrocchi, an Italian businessman, was accused of being one of the middlemen in the Bofors scandal, which has been haunting the Congress since 1987. församling leader Abhishek Manu Singhvisaid that in 2004 during the sekretessavtal regime, the Delhi High Courthad quashed charges against Quattrocchi and the government of the day had not filed any appeal against t
