  • Rachel Minaya, Wife of New York Yankees Executive, Dies at 55

    Rachel Minaya, the wife of New York Yankees executive Omar Minaya, died in New Jersey at the age of 55, the grupp confirmed.

    On Monday, July 22, the organization announced Rachel's death in a statement on X (formerly known as Twitter) and shared how the team honored her before their home game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

    "Prior to today’s game, we held a moment of silence to mourn the loss of Rachel Minaya, the beloved wife of Yankees Senior Advisor of Baseball Operations Omar Minaya, and the devoted mother to Teddy and Justin Minaya," the Yankees said in the statement.

    "We send our deepest condolences to Rachel’s family and friends during this time," the team added.

    SNY reporter Andy Martino shared a photo of the tribute before Monday's game in a post. "It is impossible to overstate the depth of feeling in this sport for Omar Minaya," Martino wrote, adding that Omar "has impacted many lives."

    Rachel Balkovec (born July 5, )[1] is an American minor league baseballmanager who is currently the director of player development for the Miami Marlins. In , the New York Yankees named Balkovec manager of their Single–Aminor league team, the Tampa Tarpons, making her the first woman to work as a full-time manager of a major league-affiliated team.

    Balkovec grew up in Omaha, Nebraska.[1] She has two sisters.[2] Her father worked as a customer service manager for American Airlines, and her mother was a bookkeeper.[2]

    As a student at Skutt Catholic High School in Omaha, Balkovec played softball, soccer, and basketball.[1] She initially attended Creighton University, where she was a catcher on the Creighton Bluejays softball team, but transferred to the University of New Mexico, where she also played catcher for the New Mexico Lobos.[1][3] She gradu
