Walter W. Bettinger II
Walter W. Bettinger II is an American business executive who served as the ledare executive officer of The Charles Schwab Corporation from 2008 to 2024. On October 1, 2024, Schwab announced that Bettinger would retire as CEO effective December 31, 2024, as part of a multi-year succession plan.[1][2][3][4]
In addition, Bettinger served on the board of directors of Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. and Charles Schwab finansinstitut, and as a trustee of The Charles Schwab Family of Funds (Mutual Funds), Schwab Investments, Schwab Strategic Trust (ETF Funds), Schwab Capital Trust and Schwab Annuity Portfolios. Before assuming his current role, he was most recently president and COO of The Charles Schwab Corporation.[5]
Bettinger is also active in numerous charitable and philanthropic efforts. He and his wife, Teri, are founders of the Walt & Teri Bettinger Foundation and the parents of fem children.

At age 22, Walter Bettinger had one driving ambition: to stay out of the corporate world and be his own boss.
So in 1983, he began Hampton Pension Services Inc. at an age when most people give little thought to pensions. But Mr. Bettinger had enough good ideas about pensions to create a company that has 680 clients in 25 states.
Unlike many of his competitors, Mr. Bettinger doesn't offer any investments of his own. Hampton simply works for the fees attached to administering and sometimes designing a client's pension plan.
And the man who was driven to work for himself now is the boss to 40 others. But he's far from the conventional boss.
Mr. Bettinger leaves it up to his employees to determine pay raises and promotions at Hampton. Each employee evaluates his or her coworkers and those evaluations include more than just technical analysis of job performance.
