Meinrad Craighead
Meinrad Craighead is an amazing spiritual artist and mystic who articulates a brilliant vision of the artist's work in this world. Here is her first mystical experience:
Years before the Goddess movement got underway, artist Meinrad Craighead first encountered "God the Mother" as a child. Lying with her dog beneath blue hydrangea bushes in her grandmother's garden in North Little Rock, Arkansas, she had heard "a rush of water" deep within her. "I listened to the sound of the water inside and I understood; 'this is God.' "Thus, it is no surprise that she now lives and paints near the Rio Grande River, the watery guide she describes as the "natural, metaphysical, archetypal symbol which has ruled my life." from Soul Sisters, The Five Sacred Qualities of a Woman's Soul by Pythia Peay
Her first mystical connection to God was through the Earth. Artists have an implicit connection to the material world because it is our task to join matter and spirit in a

Meinrad Craighead Lectures from Erdahaus Now Live
“It is human to fear loneliness, but dangerous to confuse loneliness with solitude. In solitude one crosses a threshold. Crossing thresholds always involves risk. There may be something on the other side that one does not wish to confront, one’s own self in this instance.” Rosemary Davies from Meinrad Craighead: Crow Mother and the Dog God, A Retrospective
We are thrilled to share with you the first two lectures from a workshop Meinrad Craighead led in at Erdahaus in Albuquerque. Meinrad eloquently describes ancient images and rituals, giving us practical guidance for performing rituals in our own lives. Find the lectures here.
In the first lecture from Erdahaus, Meinrad Craighead examines the concept of threshold, an integral part of her spiritual and artistic journey. In her late watercolor Dogs at the Entry () we have two great dogs guarding the threshold, “this threshold into the unknown,” Meinrad ex

Video Lectures
In , I started following Meinrad around the country and videotaping her lectures. That same year, I also filmed one of her four-day “Praying with Images” workshops in Albuquerque. For years, I’ve wanted to make these widely available, but it’s a huge undertaking. We have nearly 50 hours of audio and video tape and hundreds of slides to work on. But we have begun! We have engaged professionals to edit the tapes into viewable segments.
We have begun to post the lectures from one of Meinrad’s four-day workshops at Erdahaus. With these presentations, we benefit from her extensive travels and knowledge of the Divine Feminine. Those of you who were lucky enough to attend any of Meinrad’s lectures will probably recognize these wonderful images.I’m very excited that we are able to share her wonderful ideas with our weary world.
To create the Mystery of Being and Making videos, we took audiotapes from Meinrad’s lectures at the Journey Into Wholeness conference at
