1927 - 2009 [bulk 1961 - 2009]Maya Angelou (1928-2014) was one of the most renowned and celebrated voices in American literature. She was a poet, memoirist, novelist, educator, dramatist, producer, actress, dancer, historian, filmskapare, and civil rights activist.
In the mid-fifties, Angelou toured Europe with a production of the opera Porgy and Bess. She studied modern dance with Martha Graham, danced with Alvin Ailey on television variety shows and, in 1957, recorded her first skiva, Calypso Lady. In 1958, she moved to New York, where she joined the Harlem Writers Guild, acted in the historic Off-Broadway production of jean Genet's The Blacks and wrote and performed Cabaret for Freedom. She also worked for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), under Martin Luther King Jr.'s leadership. The Canadian Open (French: Tournoi de tennis du Canada; also known as the Canada Masters, and currently branded as the National Bank Open presented by Rogers for sponsorship reasons) is an annual professional tennis tournament held in Ontario and Quebec, Canada. It is played on outdoor hardcourts. The men's competition is an ATP Masters 1000 event on the ATP Tour, and the women's competition is a WTA 1000 event on the WTA Tour. It is the second-oldest active tennis tournament in the world, with Wimbledon the oldest.

SANDESTIN, FLA.--The top-ranked Duke women's golf kicked off the 2004 Chrysler ACC/SEC Challenge on Friday with a round of 294 and is tied for the third place with two days remaining. The Blue Devils are locked with Florida at 10-over-par at the 5,937-Yard, Par 71 The Raven Course and are two shots off the lead.
Leading after day one is Virginia and Auburn, who posted rounds of 292. Duke (294), Florida (294), Mississippi (295), South Carolina (297), Louisiana State (299), Wake Forest (300), Florida State (301) and Miami (302) round out the top 10.
"We played pretty well today from tee to green," said Duke Head Coach Dan Brooks. "The greens we are playing on this weekend are slow Bermuda and whenever you see greens like this you have to bust it. The greens tend to lead to the field being equalized like we are seeing here."
